Arsenal are preparing for next season and have (so far) managed to keep hold of star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, whilst also adding the quality of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac to the squad. Aside from that, the Gunners have been relatively quiet in the transfer market and there is still an expectation among most fans that at least one or two more are needed to help the squad remain competitive in the new campaign.
One position that has caused Arsenal lots of problems over the last couple of seasons is in central midfield. Granit Xhaka has started to assert himself on the scene, but Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla have had fitness concerns over the last few seasons. There are concerns over the quality of Mohammed Elneny and Francis Coquelin, whilst Jack Wilshere’s future appears to be elsewhere after his latest injury setback.
Below we take a look at three possible central midfield additions Arsenal could make before the season starts, according to reports.
1 – Jean Seri
Seri reportedly has a £36million release clause – so technically, if the player wants to come, Arsenal could activate that clause at any point, and bring in a creative midfielder that would greatly improve the squad. Seri is currently trying to make Nice qualify for the Champions League, and whether they do or not could have a big impact on whether the player wants to move to Arsenal – who of course won’t be competing in the competition. Nice recently beat Ajax, but they now face Napoli in the next qualifying round, a very tough fixture. It was recently reported by the reputable ESPN that Arsenal were plotting a move for Seri.
