Arsenal have found their new centre back in Kostas Manolas and he had a medical at the club yesterday, according to Goal.
Goal aren’t the most reliable, but it is worth looking into a little. Arsenal need a centre back with some strength and some youth. Manolas fits that mould perfectly and at £8million, he could be quite the coup.
Arsene Wenger confirmed yesterday that the Gunners were still in the market for a defender.
“Vermaelen behaved outstandingly last year – I am grateful for him and I wish him very well. If I can find another centre-back I will do it.”
As seems to always be the case, Arsenal are rivalling Juventus to the signing of Manolas but the report in Goal says Arsenal have moved ahead of the Italian’s in the chase to sign the Greek defender. Juventus also are currently chasing Benfica defender Luisao which may end their interest in Manolas.
The 23-year-old is an aggressive defender that would add significant quality to the Arsenal defence and give the Gunners a decent looking back up defence. Bellerin, Chambers, Manolas, Monreal. Aside from Monreal they are all young too, perhaps the future of the Arsenal defence?
No other media outlet is carrying the medical story from Goal, so we will have to wait and see if it is true. I’d certainly have no complaints if Manolas did join though, would you? Let me know by commenting below.
