West Ham eye deal for Arsenal forward as Gunners look to trim squad

Arsenal have made a busy start to the Premier League January transfer window as the club look to trim their squad.

Amongst the departures could be forward Eddie Nketiah. According to Standard Sport West Ham are eyeing Nketiah as a possible replacement for Sebastien Haller who joined Ajax for £20million earlier this week.

21-year-old Nketiah was brought back from his loan at Leeds in January 2020, soon after Mikel Arteta arrived at the club. Initially, the youngster’s hard work was rewarded with first-team opportunities but Eddie has struggled to consistently perform at the level required and to secure a place in the team.

A resurgence in form from Alexandre Lacazette and a return from injury for Gabriel Martinelli will make things more difficult for Eddie. The Gunners who would also like to keep young striker Folarin Balogun at the club, will need to demonstrate a path to the first team for the forward if he is to commit to the club.

With other areas in the squad in need of strengthening, Arsenal could look to cash in on Nketiah to help them bring in a creative midfielder. Anything in excess of £20million for Eddie would certainly be worth accepting in my opinion and judging by the prices of other young English strikers, it’s not an unrealistic amount to be asking for.
