Arsene Wenger has opened the door to another attacking midfield arrival this summer after declaring he will sign players based on quality, not position.
Wenger told press he is in the market for players of world class ability, no matter their position. These comments open the door to reported moves for Arturo Vidal and Mario Gotze. The duo could be on the market this summer and have been linked to Arsenal in the last few weeks.
Juventus may sell Vidal in order to keep hold of Paul Pogba, whilst Gotze is reportedly unsatisfied with the lack of playing time at Bayern Munich currently. Wenger is a huge fan of Gotze and these comments show nothing will stop him from signing the German, although they do make you wonder why Cesc Fabregas wasn’t bought in the summer.
It also makes a reported move for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling more believable. Since Sterling has been linked, Arsenal fans have been in disagreement on a possible move, with many stating we don’t need to sign a player in his position.
We will wait and see how the summer pans out, but it looks pretty exciting. Wenger is obviously keen to bring in more world class talent after the signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have helped the club to an FA Cup, an improved finish in the league and another cup final.
