Two key Arsenal midfielders look set to leave in January

Arsenal are a mess right now and it looks to be getting worse.

Lucas Torreira is set to hold crunch talks with Emery in the next week as he is not happy with his current situation at the club, and who could blame him?

The 23-year-old looked a shrewd signing last summer, but under Emery he has been misused and failed to progress. Now the Uruguayan midfielder, who appeared exactly what the Gunners needed on arrival, is looking towards the exit door.

Emery has only given Torreira three Premier League starts this season, despite Arsenal’s midfield being extremely dysfunctional, especially in defensive areas, something Lucas can address.

And joining Torreira in the sales list in January will be Granit Xhaka, who after being stripped of the captaincy by Emery, is set to be sold according to The Mirror.

For me, the only way out of this mess is to sack Unai Emery as soon as possible.

Torreira and Xhaka are not the only players being forced out under this regime. Mesut Ozil is being pushed towards the MLS and the lack of quality on the pitch means both Aubameyang and Lacazette will not commit to new contracts, meaning the Gunners are likely to look to sell the duo so that they do not leave for nothing in 18 months’ time.

Arsenal cannot afford to replace all of Torreira, Xhaka, Aubameyang and Lacazette in the middle of the season and so the only solution is to bring in a new manager who may be able to restore some harmony and bring out the best in these players, who clearly have talent but are being mismanaged.

The dressing room is gone.
