Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool last night was quite something. Despite being carved apart for the first 45 minutes, the Gunners managed to keep a clean sheet but that was mainly down to one man, Petr Cech.
The 33 year old endured a difficult start to his career at the club but an excellent performance against Liverpool will have helped him gain confidence and also shown the fans what he can do.
Cech was immediately put under pressure by an on form Liverpool team on Monday night. Calum Chambers and Gabriel Paulista were drafted in at centre back due to injuries, which meant Cech had an awful lot to do.
Twitter was very happy with how he performed (at least the Arsenal fans were) with two saves in particular catching the eye. His fingertip save from Phillipe Coutinho and point blank stop from Cristian Benteke were memorable and during his post-match interview, it was clear the Czech Republic international was thrilled with his performance – if only he performed like that in his first home game!
