The clubs reported prime target, Karim Benzema committed his future to the club with a tweet on Monday to break Arsenal fans hearts. Now The Mirror suggest the Gunners have turned their attentions to Cavani.

In 2013 Cavani signed for €64.5million. PSG, who seem in no real need for a cash injection, will need to receive a similar amount in order to let go of the Uruguayan. He turns 29 this season and I find it hard to believe that Wenger would be happy to invest any more than £35million-£40million on someone of that age.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the star at PSG and Cavani will probably want to test himself in the Premier League before his career ends.

78 goals in 104 at Napoli and 34 in 66 for PSG (playing on the wing often) – the striker has a brilliant goalscoring record over his career.

Cavani is 6ft and able to play on either wing, which would make him a very useful addition to the squad. The Gunners need a more prolific striker who is also capable of leading the line, this is something Cavani would be more than capable of doing.

Although he has often disappointed on the international stage, there is no question that signing Cavani would add significant quality to the club and whilst it may be a risk, at this stage there aren’t many alternatives that don’t involve sticking with what we’ve got.

Even if Cavani was made available, the Gunners would face competition from the likes of Manchester United for his signing.
