3 – Competition In Attack At Last
Something we’ve needed for so long, and realistically the importance of having Welbeck back in contention for a spot could be so important for our campaign.
Players like Olivier Giroud don’t like to be on the bench, period. So when you take a man that isn’t scoring out of the game, he immediately wants to show he’s good enough to prove you wrong.
Welbeck was handed another start today, and this time he took the place of the Frenchman in the forward role, putting in a dominant performance yet again.
His pace and agility adds something new to our game, and he was vital in the opening goal after testing the discipline of Tottenham’s defence before picking out a pass to Hector Bellerin.
It’s obvious that they are slightly different players, but Welbeck has come back to work his ass off as a striker, and Giroud can learn a lot from the English international.
We now go through a spell where rotation is key, and if Giroud wants to make a starting place in the Euro’s he’ll take any chance he can get to add to his 18 goals in all competitions.
With the out-of-form Walcott also waiting in the wings to return, pressure on these players is something we need, and we’ll soon find the characters that can handle it.
