- Mezut Ozil.
This was a toss up between Ozil, and one of our keepers. But the record singing get’s it because of just that, partly anyway, there’s his bucket loads of assist, and general football genius to remember. He changed the whole outlook of the club, set us on course for a new era. This season was a sign of things to go. Ozil hit the ground running. Two assists on his debut, and the numbers kept on rolling. Then he inevitably faded. That wasn’t the crazy thing. The crazy thing was people criticising the best number ten in the world. Coming to a new league, new team, new country, new friends, why we’re people so shocked when he fizzled out? Even now, the media slaughter remains a mystery, ‘stealing a living’, that still leaves me twitching at night. Ozil hasn’t even hit his peak yet, he’s only just finished adapting, next season he’ll be electric. Within the context of the entire pace of this squad being stripped through injuries, a look at Ozil’s assist output is brilliant really, considering he’s a player who thrives on the pace of others. You can look at it anyway you like, Ozil’s world class, and he’s been fantastic in his debut season. Every player needs to time to flourish. Ramsey is the best example of that. Now look.
