Next is our first choice keeper. He may not have the maturity Fabianski displays, and is showing more mental lapses than we’d like in defence, nevertheless, he’s put in another fine season. It’s easy to forget how young he is in keeper terms. He’s still learning. He has an arrogance that’s more harmful than good, but that’s likely to fade with maturity. He’s been part of the defence that’s been solid all season, minor the strange games already mentioned, which were more team collapses than individual errors. It’s worth noting that before the final day he was on course to claim the quiet golden glove. The only other candidate for that was the hugely experienced Petr Cech. There’s a huge difference in age and experience between the two, and the fact that Szczesny would have likely surpassed the Chelsea number one must surely merit a superb season for the young Pole.
