It’s a shame to put a player of his quality at the wrong end of a top ten list. He’s had a difficult season. He’s looked looked tired for large parts of the season, seeing his goal/assist contribution drop as a result. He was one of our star players last season, so maybe this isn’t so much as big dip in form, more that we’re simply used to seeing him play much better. Nevertheless, twinkle-toes put in enough quality performances to earn his place on this list. Man City at home, for example, he was the best player on the pitch. Then there’s the cup final. Stunning free kick. He got us back in the game. Had it not gone in, it would have been a different story. He worked hard all game, driving the team forward, particularly in the first half. The Spaniard, like many others that day, finally turned up when it really, really mattered. He’ll be back to his magic next season.
