Another versatile player makes the list. The Spaniard, originally a left-back as we all know, has been called upon to take up the central defender duties since Laurent Koscielny’s tendinitis has plagued him hard. A controversial one, as many fans may argue he is not a typical ‘ard centre-back and is actually quite small and technical. Without a doubt, Monreal has been excellent in this role, certainly against Hull at home where he managed to keep Abel Hernandez at bay for the majority of the game. His performances versus Anderlecht and Sunderland were once more composed and encouraging, providing the shambollic mess Wenger has left us in, in terms of defensive cover.
