1st place – ‘Dat Guy’ (Danny Welbeck)
He’s done it! Danny Welbeck has silenced his many critics with an absolutely outstanding month of performances.
On his debut against Man City, Welbeck came close to giving Arsenal a 1-0 lead with a delightful chip that hit the post in the first half of the game. His Champions League debut was filled with promising signs, although he sadly didn’t get the service he needed to really shine in Germany that night. Then, against Aston Villa, Danny made his first assist for the club, feeding Mesut Özil a lovely through ball which the German slotted away with ease. Moments later, Özil returned the favour, delivering a cross which Danny volleyed home.
After a fairly forgettable display against Spurs, Welbeck set the Emirates alight with a performance that would have made Thierry Henry proud. In the 22nd minute against Galatasaray, the young Englishman scored his first Champions League goal by poking the ball through the legs of the Turkish side’s keeper. In the 30th minute, he scored another goal, this time in the style of Henry himself – shrugging off defenders at pace and then curling the ball into the corner of the net. Danny completed his hat trick with a deft-touch-chip, sealing his place in Arsenal’s record book, and his place on this list.
Congratulations, Danny! You’re Fresh Arsenal’s September Player of the Month.
