The transfer window opens on Friday and Arsenal could complete as many as three deals within days of the window opening. Here’s the transfers we expect to be concluded swiftly. You can find the other two transfers by using the navigation at the bottom of the page.
1 – Mohammed Elneny to Arsenal
This one has been well documented, with the player already reportedly passing a medical. The fee will be somewhere between £5million-£7million. Elneny’s strengths lie in his passing (a 92.4% pass success rate in the Europa League this season) and work rate. He is a hard working player who has made notable improvement’s this season, according to FC Basel fans.
Some fans were looking for a dominating midfield presence may be disappointed by his height of 5ft 11. Don’t let his age (23) deceive you – he has 39 caps for Egypt and has played nearly 100 games for Basel during his three years at the club.
With Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla out in the long term, there is significant stress on midfield duo Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini to perform every game. Couple that with Jack Wilshere’s inability to stay fit and you can see why Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a central midfielder.
Did you see? Has this shock development just saved Arsenal a fortune in January?
The BBC report that Arsenal do not see Elneny as a stop gap, but in fact a long-term solution in midfield. Do you agree? Is he the long term solution to the Gunners midfield problems?
