2. Lukas Podolski
Yet another player in this squad that we’ve sadly forgotten about, and unfortunately it seems there is no place for Podolski anymore.Â
The German international vowed to make an impact at the start of this season, but with the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, his chances in the spotlight were limited.
At 30 years old, it seemed the winger had reached his peak whilst playing out on the left side, and failed to capture any sort of energy or excitement whilst having chances in both the Capital One Cup and Champions League.
As a result of his poor performances, Podolski was shipped out to Inter Milan during the winter transfer period, but it seems he failed to pick up any sort of momentum and managed just 17 appearances, with most of them failing to make 90 minutes.
And now it looks as if a deal could be in place to please both parties, with the former FC Koln star set to leave on a permanent basis to gain regular first team football.
Whilst talking to German news outlet, Berliner Morgenpost, Podolski sounded shady with regards to his future;
For me to make an important decision, perhaps to stay in London, to give full throttle again and how to attack. I’m not going to get there and sit quietly on the bench.
If it is a new club, I have to make the right decision. Because it is perhaps the last big contract for me.
Arsene Wenger will be keen to offload the German international, who is one of the Gunners’ highest earners, reportedly on the wage books for £90,000 a week.
That leftover money will allow give the boss some room to play with in terms of his forward options, and it’s not expected to be out on the left hand side with Cazorla, Alexis and Welbeck already covering the flank.
Galatassary currently look favourites to get Podolski’s signature, having recently confirmed they have him on their shortlist. Reports have suggested a figure of around £10million could be expected for his services.
