Alternative formation 3: 4-4-2 (Diamond)
This would be a way to pack the midfield against sides that play with three centre-midfielders whilst also having the option to play 2 up-front, which seems to suit Giroud better. Due to our large number of centre-midfielders this may suit us. Width would have to be provided from the full-backs and the CDM would be expected to play as a third Centre Back when we’re attacking. The two main centre-mids would again probably have to be Wilshere and Ramsey due to their high work-rates, and in-front would be Ozil who’d be relied upon a lot to create the chances. Of the three this would probably be the least likely to be used but could provide a useful option, especially against a side like Liverpool, where we could match them man for man.
