Striker’s agent tells media: “He’s close to joining Arsenal”

According to Sky Sports, Romanian media are suggesting free agent Ciprian Marica is close to joining a Premier League club. The striker has been heavily linked with Arsenal all summer, and as a free agent would be allowed to join the club at any point during the season. The forward’s agent has also claimed the player is close to joining Arsenal.

The forwards agent, Ioan Becali told media: “He’s close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week.” [according to quotes from Prosport.ro]

“Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eyeing his career,”.

This could possibly [and most likely] be agent talk. However it is well documented that Arsenal were in the market to sign a centre-forward this summer, and with a last ditch move for Demba Ba being blocked, Ciprian Marica may be a suitable alternative.

27 year-old Marica has a solid International record with 23 goals in 64 appearances for Romania. The former Schalke and Stuttgart forward’s main position is up front, but he is also able to play as a second striker or on either wing. West Ham are also said to be keen on signing the striker. Despite not currently having a club, Marica played, scored and got an assist for Romania on Friday in their 3-0 win over Hungary. It is believed a number of clubs around Europe had scouts at that game.
