Spanish Reports: Arsenal Have Agreed Deal To Sign Denis Suarez

It’s been a bit of a talking point all month, but just as quickly as the deal was off, it now appears that a deal has been agreed to take Denis Suarez to Arsenal.

Last week we looked at how the Spaniard may fit in tactically to Arsenal’s system, then a few days later it appeared that a deal was off as Arsenal were not willing to commit to signing the player permanently.

Now a compromise appears to have been reached with Spanish source CADENA COPE and others confirming this afternoon that Arsenal will loan the player with an option to buy at the end of the season. Suarez had just one year left on his contract in the summer, hence why Barcelona were going to be insistent on the option to buy, believed to be set at around €25million. Arsenal wanted that to be an option, after seeing how he fares in English football. Barcelona have now reportedly agreed to the purchase option being just that, an option, because they have extended the contract of Suarez by one year, in order to protect his value.

We understand that Denis Suarez agreed to extend his contract at Barcelona by one year this enabled Barcelona to accept the ‘option’ to buy rather than ‘obligation’ to buy. This illustrates how keen the player was on the move and Unai Emery will certainly be looking forward to working with the Spaniard again.

The midfielder can play as a left or right midfielder or as a central attacking midfielder. It could open the door for one of Aaron Ramsey, Mohammed Elneny or Mesut Ozil to move on in the next few days.

Barcelona manager Valverde said this afternoon: “Denis Suarez is on the verge of joining Arsenal, there is not much left to make it official, we hope he does well, he has always acted with dedication and we are happy with him.”
