Source: Arsenal want to sign highly-rated Premier League defender this summer

Numerous reports over the last week or so have linked Arsenal with a summer move for Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey. A club insider confirmed to Fresh Arsenal that Arsenal’s interest in Lamptey is genuine. The Gunners have followed Lamptey since his time at Chelsea and are eyeing a move for the youngster this summer, despite him only recently signing a new four year deal.

Lamptey is just 20-years-old and only joined Brighton just over a year ago, but the speedy defender has been mightily impressive in that short time.

Hector Bellerin is reportedly being considered by the likes of PSG for a summer move and it seems Arsenal’s long relationship with the Spaniard may come to an end. This leaves 29-year-old Cedric Soares as the clubs only other recognised right back.

Whilst Lamptey is an exciting prospect for Arsenal and their fans, it must be remembered that he has only played 20 Premier League games. He’s also played the majority of these as a right wing back, giving him the creative licence to show his attacking qualities. Arsenal play with a back four now and Lamptey would need to adjust.

Another concern with Lamptey is his injuries. Since December, the youngster has been struggling with a hamstring problem and is now set to see a specialist.

With Lamptey’s four year deal it means Arsenal will have to pay up in order to secure his signing. Brighton are likely to ask for a fee in excess of £25million.
