Mesut Ozil has named the best eleven players he has played with. Playing for Germany, Real Madrid and Arsenal he had a pretty big selection. Some of his choices were surprising though..
Ozil opted to include Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry. Gnabry was held back last season due to injuries, but Ozil has obviously seen something in training to convince him of Gnabry’s enormous quality – to choose him over Alexis Sanchez is quite something. Ozil also chose Santi Cazorla – whose teammates always rate very highly.
Ozil named just two Arsenal players in the team but you can see why when you see who they have to compete with. Here’s his XI in full:
Casillas
Lahm Boateng Ramos Marcelo
Cazorla Alonso
Ronaldo Gnabry Di Maria
Benzema
Di Maria over Alexis might raise a few eyebrows, as might Koscielny’s exclusion but it’s a pretty incredible eleven.
A notable inclusion of Benzema as the striker ahead of Olivier Giroud shows that Arsenal could really do with the Real Madrid forward. Ozil has named him as the most complete striker he’s played with and his quality and experience would be a great addition to our squad.
27 year old Benzema could be available this summer if Madrid add another striker – as Cristiano Ronaldo could be moved to start as a striker next season under new manager Rafael Benitez, leaving Benzema as a substitute much of the time.
What do you think of Ozil’s selections? Are you excited by the potential he sees in Gnabry?
