Schalke keen on signing Arsenal duo as Gunners look to trim squad

German side Schalke appear to have taken a liking to Arsenal’s squad and according to reports in the last 24 hours.

Arsenal are ready to sell a number of first team players as they aim to raise funds in order to rebalance their squad and build a team capable of challenging for the top four in the Premier League.

Amongst those viewed as dispensable are left-back Sead Kolasinac. The former Schalke defender is highly rated there and it seems they are looking to bring him back to the club.

As explained by Arseblog, Kolasinac will need to take a pay cut in order to join Schalke due to their salary cap. The Gunners will also likely have to continue to contribute to the players £140,000 per week wages until the completion of his current contract (2022).

It does seem likely that Sead will move on, with his route to the first team currently blocked. Kieran Tierney, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bukayo Saka have featured ahead of him at left wing back and left back. Sead has been restricted to playing as a left central defender in a back five, a role now likely to be occupied by new signing Gabriel Magalhaes.

In a more surprising move, it seems the German club are also amongst the suitors for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The Argentinean is desperate to play first team football and if Arsenal cannot offer him that at The Emirates, he will look elsewhere. Sky Sports now report that Schalke are keen on his signature. With two years remaining on his current contract and both Leno and Emi vying for the number 1 spot, something has got to give in the coming days.

In our Arsenal transfer news section, you will have noticed conflicting reports over the future of Martinez in the last few days. It is currently not clear how this situation will end, but its one to keep an eye on for sure.
