The position of right-back has been the talk of the town for Arsenal fans in recent days.
A lackluster display from Cedric Soares against Manchester City highlighted the problem Arsenal have in that area of the pitch.
Mikel Arteta has been shuffling his pack of options at right full-back in 2021 and with no clear first choice option, the club have been linked with making a signing in that position.
But here we are on deadline day, and the issue remains: Arsenal still own four right-backs and before one comes in, at least one needs to leave.
Calum Chambers, Hector Bellerin, Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have all rotated in that position under Arteta’s tenure, and now it looks like Mikel is prepared to make his first sale.
It’s been widely reported that Bellerin is finally ready to leave Arsenal this summer and it looks as if he will get his move on deadline day.
That is according to Sevilla-based journalist Alvaro Carrellan, who late on Monday night reported that ‘the arrival of Bellerin (to Real Betis) is practically closed. Tomorrow morning he will travel to Sevilla to sign with Real Betis. His transfer will be announced before noon. 100% confirmed’.
It’s not completely clear from this tweet, but Alvaro seems to suggest that the move is a permanent one. This would suit Arsenal more, as it would free up funds to invest elsewhere.
A move to Betis for Bellerin should open the door for Arsenal to make a new signing in this position, but it is not yet clear who, if anyone, will come through the door.
Kieran Trippier is thought to be available for transfer from Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal could once again look to Atletico for a deadline day signing.
