Report: Dramatic Deadline Day u-turn as midfielder holds successful talks with Mikel Arteta today

Arsenal have made a shock u-turn on the future of one of their midfielders.

It’s been a busy day in the transfer window for Arsenal, but one player now that was expected to leave is now set to stay.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles went very public with his desire to leave the club yesterday, publicly posting on social media that he wants to move to a club where he will play and feel valued.

That saw him expelled from first-team training today and it looked certain that he would move on from Arsenal on deadline day.

But Everton were the only club to be publicly linked and that was for a loan deal.

Arsenal were not interested in letting the player leave on loan, but appeared willing to listen to permanent offers.

Now though, in a massive deadline day u-turn, Arsenal have now decided to keep Maitland-Niles at the club. This is following ‘clear the air’ talks between boss Mikel Arteta and Maitland-Niles today according to Sami Mokbel from the Daily Mail.

Maitland-Niles offers Arsenal cover at full back and in midfield.
