Report Card: Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Report Card 2016

  • Age: 27
  • Position: Winger
  • Squad #: 7
  • Height: 5ft 6in

Season Prediction:

It’s a big one for Alexis who after sitting through a lengthy injury last season wants to come back fighting and challenge Olivier Giroud for the top goalscorer prize. Having had a difficult time playing out of position in the centre forward role, we’ve seen that Alexis is best placed out on one of the flanks, and he will continue to be one of the most feared players in the Premier League. He’ll want to play every game this season if he had it his way and that’s something Wenger needs to manage in order to get the best out of him every time.

Player Objectives:

With Walcott returning to form and Lucas Perez an option on the right wing, we can expect to see Alexis back in his comfort zone on the left, a position where enjoyed so much success in 2014/15. He’ll be targeting 20 goals in a Gunners jersey this season and that’s a reachable, yet challenging goal. If he can continue to coach and impress these younger players like Iwobi and Jeff Renne-Adelade then he’s gone above and beyond his role at this club.

Best Attributes:

His fearlessness to run at defenders is infectious, and I just love seeing him cut inside to then have a strike at goal, it’s a move he’s now perfected so expect to see him use it countless of times. You and I can agree that we’ve never seen an Arsenal player put in so much work on the training ground, he’s the first there and the last to leave, he has football in his bones.

Weak Areas:

Sometimes he can put too much pressure on himself and that’s where he begins to make silly decisions and his temper gets the better of him. We’ve found that he plays best when confidence is on his side, the longer he goes without a goal the more reckless he becomes.
