Arsenal have managed to clear another member of the squad off of the wage bill after agreeing a permanent transfer with Galatassary.
In a whirlwind 24 hours, the deal will see Lucas Torreira join the Turkish side in a move that will total up to £7.5m once all add-ons are considered.
It’s believed that the 26-year-old was weighing up proposals from Serie A as well, but has ultimately decided to sign for Galatasary, who will spend a year away from the Champions League after a dismal 13th place finish last season.
With just one year left to run on his current contract and next to no suitors lining up to purchase the defensive midfielder, Arteta and his hierarchy were keen to close the deal as soon as possible.
Torreira has been completely unused throughout pre-season and has only taken part in the odd training session over the summer, making it hard for Arsenal to place him in a shop window.
However, the significance of losing Torreira could now start the chain reaction of going after long-term target Youri Tielemans, who Arteta is a huge admirer of.
Reports suggest the Leicester City midfielder is only waiting for Arsenal and will push for a move should an offer come in, something Brendan Rogers has admitted he’s powerless over.
