Report: Arsenal make enquiry to sign world class creative midfielder

Arsenal are making some exciting moves in the transfer market this summer, or at least the rumours would suggest so.

So far the Gunners have only signed Willian on a free transfer, but a deal for Gabriel Magalhaes is close to completion. Now, the club appear to be turning their attention to strengthening their midfield. Arteta would certainly like more technical ability in the heart of midfield and the likes of Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey have been linked.

But now, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have made an enquiry to sign Thiago Alacantara. The world class Spanish midfielder has been put up for sale by Bayern Munich because he has just one year remaining on his contract, and it seems a new deal will not be offered as Bayern focus on younger talents and Thiago searches for a new challenge.

Whilst Arsenal should probably be looking at younger options, 29-year-old Thiago would be a huge upgrade on the clubs current midfield options and significantly help Arteta play the way he wants Arsenal to play.

The report in the Daily Mail says Arsenal would need the likes of Lucas Torreira and Mohammed Elneny to leave first and would like Bayern to lower their asking price of £23million, because the player would also demand significant wages.

Torreira is thought to be close to moving to Serie A, with many clubs in the Italian top tier interested.

It is hard seeing Arsenal winning this race to be honest, with the likes of Liverpool interested. Thiago is nearing the end of his career and will not want to waste his final years outside of the Champions League.
