Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has reportedly made Laurent Koscielny one of his main targets for the summer.

Madrid love to pursue a Premier League superstar each summer, but rarely do they choose a defender. There have been reports that Madrid may give Arsenal first option on Karim Benzema to sweeten a deal.
No reports have mentioned what Madrid plan to bid, but if David Luiz went for £50million last summer, I can’t begin to imagine what value Arsenal should place on Koscielny.
The French defender is 29 and has two years remaining on his current contract at Arsenal. The Gunners back to back successes in the FA Cup will have given Koscielny some encouragement that The Gunners are heading in the right direction.
Benitez has already tried to sign Koscielny for Napoli, but failed. He may now view the lure of Madrid as a worthy reason to try again. Koscielny has previously spoken out about his frustration that Arsenal were not winning trophies, but that was obviously when we weren’t winning trophies.

The shortage of top class defenders at the moment means I think we should do everything possible to keep Koscielny. That includes resisting the bait that may arrive in the form of Karim Benzema.
