Now plenty of players want to join Arsenal, that is no secret. But another can join the official ‘coming out’ list as of this week.
That is Pogba, not Paul, but his relative (and almost identical relative) Florentin. Florentin Pogba is a 26-year-old defender who currently plays in France for Saint-Etienne. He certainly hopes that playing in this division will help catch the eye of the Frenchman.
On playing in England he said: “This is the dream I had since I was a kid,” he told Telefoot. “I had a few opportunities during the last transfer window but it did not materialise.
“I am waiting, I am patient and I want to continue my good performances with my club that would allow me to go. I love Arsenal.”
Florentin is most comfortable as a central defender, but he can also play at left back. Arsenal are in no great need for another central defender, with new signings Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi impressing. But with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista considering their futures, that could change. Kieran Gibbs could also be wondering about moving for regular game time, as he is now in the ‘prime’ years of his career and cannot afford to waste time. With Monreal now in his 30’s, an opportunity at left back could arise.
I cannot say I know an awful lot about Pogba at all, but WhoScored describe his strength as aerial duels and a weakness in the tackle. They also say he has good concentration and has a tendency not to dive into tackles.
All in all this is just another player declaring their love for Arsenal, it doesn’t mean a deal will happen, but it does show that the club is still held in high regard, especially in France.
