Arsenal traveled to Newcastle on Sunday with very little to play for in terms of the league, but Mikel Arteta will have been desperate to see his side finish as high up in the table as possible.
Despite that, the second leg on Thursday remains the focus for Arsenal and that was clear in the team selection. Arteta made eight changes from the 2-1 defeat in Spain, with the likes of Ryan, Martinelli, Willian and Elneny coming into the starting eleven.

Man of the match: Gabriel Martinelli was a bright spark for Arsenal, always trying to make things happen and produced a brilliant assist for Aubameyang.
Flop of the match: Dani Ceballos – he wasn’t terrible, but the Spaniard was one of the least influential players for Arsenal on the day.
Special mentions:
David Luiz – 7: Looked solid but sadly 50 minutes in, Luiz pulled up with a hamstring problem. It almost certainly rules him out of Thursday and it could even be his final game for Arsenal.
Mohammed Elneny – 8: The Egyptian has shown some goalscoring form in recent months after some special shooting training with the coaches. It’s certainly paying off. Scored our fastest Premier League goal of the season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 8: Auba was selected to try and get him back in the rhythm ahead of Thursday and he did just that. An assist and an instinctive goal.
