Player ratings: FC Zurich 1-2 Arsenal

Fresh Arsenal newsletter

Arsenal got off to winning ways in the Europa League on Thursday evening with a 2-1 win away to FC Zurich.

Arsenal were not at their best on the night. It felt like they could be playing at a higher pace and more positive in spells, but a goal and assist from new man Marquinhos was the bright spark of the evening.

Here’s how I rated the players:
Matt Turner – 5
Takehiro Tomiyasu – 6
Rob Holding – 5
Gabriel Magalhaes – 6
Kieran Tierney – 5
Albert Sambi Lokonga – 6
Granit Xhaka – 7
Gabriel Martinelli – 6
Fabio Vieira – 6
Marquinhos – 8
Eddie Nketiah – 7

Man of the match: Marquinhos. The was a lot of debate as to how much senior football this summers £3million signing would get. After impressing a couple of times in the under 21 side, he was rewarded with a start tonight and he showed he’s certainly ready to play at this level. An excellent finish for Arsenal’s opener and a top quality cross for Eddie Nketiah’s goal.
