Player ratings: Arsenal 4-1 Leeds

Arsenal had to respond against Leeds after Manchester City produced a statement 4-1 win over Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off.

The Gunners started slow, but Gabriel Jesus, back in the starting line-up, sent two Leeds players to the floor before being clipped by former Arsenal youth Luke Ayling in the box. He stepped up to score from the spot.

In the second half Arsenal looked much better, starting really quick with Martinelli assisting Ben White who scored again at the back post.

Arsenal soon made it three, Jesus and Trossard linking up in the box, with Jesus netting his second of the game. This allowed Mikel Arteta to make a couple of changes, resting Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey, from the 60th minute. The latter was an injury doubt ahead of kick-off.

But Arsenal did lose a bit of rhythm with those changes and Leeds got one goal back with 15 minutes to go.

But just like against Crystal Palace in Arsenal’s last game, the Gunners responded and made it 4-1, Martin Odegaard with a gorgeous assist for Xhaka who headed in beautifully.

Lead at the top restored, next up, a massive test when Arsenal travel to Anfield.

Man of the match: Gabriel Jesus. He needed a start to get some sharpness back and this game went perfectly for him. Won the penalty before converting to break the deadlock and open up the game for Arsenal. In the second half he started very well, linking up with Trossard to score another. Sensibly subbed on 60 minutes.
