Arsenal’s summer has been dictated by the reluctance of three key players to commit their future by putting pen to paper, but it seems the fans are divided on the Ox’s situation.

According to Sky Sports News, the 23-year-old will sit down with Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis as they try to persuade him to stay via financial and tactical assurances.

As he heads in to the final year of his current contract, the former Southampton man is reportedly demanding some assurances over his role in the first team following an impressive end to last season.

Wenger has been adamant that within the next few years the Ox will move into central midfield, but for now is getting the most out of his pace and confidence by playing him as a wing-back.

It seems as though the Englishman is happy with life at Arsenal and has a good relationship with Wenger, but his agent is causing problems by teasing big clubs with the chance to sign him.

Liverpool and Chelsea have both been heavily linked with a move this summer and Wenger’s stance will be tested as we enter the final few days of the transfer window being open.

Last week the Arsenal boss said he hoped the Ox would sign a new contract and believes he will become one of the most important English players to watch in the next few years.

If the two parties can’t reach an agreement, Wenger could be tempted in to setting a price tag of £40million for his services rather than lose him on a free next summer.
