Opinion: Arsenal’s potential player agreement will be a no-brainer

Arsenal have caught the eye with many strong performances in recent months, with Mikel Arteta’s side seemingly going from strength to strength in the Premier League. The Gunners narrowly missed out on the Premier League title last season, as Manchester City’s consistency proved too strong for them. However, there were plenty of positives for Arteta and the club’s supporters to take from the 2022/23 season, where they established themselves as serious title contenders.

They’ve made an impressive start to the 2023/24 league campaign as well, and will be looking to keep the pressure on Manchester City for as long as possible, which certainly seems an achievable target moving forwards. One player that has played a key role in the new season is Ben White, who seems to be flourishing in this Arteta team.

The 25-year-old signed for Arsenal back in 2021 from Brighton & Hove Albion for a hefty price tag, having previously caught the eye for Leeds United in a successful loan spell at Elland Road, where the Yorkshire-based side won promotion back into the Premier League. White made a somewhat slow start to life at the Emirates Stadium, but has certainly found his feet nowadays.

It seems as though Arsenal are keen to secure his long-term future with the club at the earliest of opportunities as well, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that Arsenal are negotiating a new contract for White, which is certain to please the club’s supporters, who will have ambitions of their side winning a long overdue league title this season. White has shown that he’s a versatile member of the Arsenal squad in recent months, with him operating at right-back for the majority of the 2023/24 season due to injuries to other players in the first-team squad.

White has also played at centre-back, and central midfield at times whilst with the Gunners, and that versatility could certainly come in useful with the busy schedule that Arsenal have this term, as they look to compete on all fronts, which includes their Champions League campaign.

It’ll be a no-brainer for Arsenal to extend White’s contract, as it’ll drive his asking price up for any potential suitors for his signature. He’s a player that still has his best years ahead of him, and given the quality we’ve already seen from him this season, he could go on to be a regular starter for the Gunners for years to come.
