We’ve done it! We’ve made a signing! Arsenal have completed a deal for England striker Danny Welbeck for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £16million. Fresh Arsenal told you earlier that Welbeck was closing in on a move to the Emirates. It is thought Welbeck has signed a 5 year contract worth around £90,000 per-week.
Giroud has been ruled out until January with a broken foot, this news accelerated Arsenal’s plans to sign a striker before the window closed. Yaya Sanogo was the only natural striker available to Arsene Wenger and is yet to score a goal in 17 Arsenal appearances.
Arsenal were linked with Welbeck way back at the start of the summer, and Arsene Wenger is known to be a fan of the forward.
Welbeck was not Arsenal’s first choice, but he was available and looking for a club. Tottenham were heavily interested, but Arsenal were the players choice. Welbeck clearly knows that he will get a chance to play through the middle with Arsenal and that is his preferred position.
The positive of this signing is that Welbeck is young, just 23 and has bags of international and top level experience. He’s also versatile, can play on the left or as an out and out striker. He’s English, so joins our British core at the Emirates to help add some chemistry to our attack.
Welbeck joins Chambers, Gibbs, Wilshere, Walcott, Chamberlain and Ramsey in Arsenal’s British core. They aren’t just squad players either, all of them could be starters this season.
