According to a report in the Daily Star, Arsenal have held talks with the 28-year-old’s representatives and are increasingly interested in bringing the Ivorian to the Emirates stadium.

It is claimed that the Gunners have been informed that the Ivorian, who is currently away at African Cup of Nations duty for the Ivory Coast, wants £80,000-a-week and a three-year-deal.

Arsenal are seeking a new defensive minded midfielder, but at this moment a move for Tiote would not be needed.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to the Gunners, numerous of times before, however his performance levels have dropped and the Ivorian has struggled to produce his best form for club and country.

A move for Tiote would make little sense for Arsenal, as Francis Coquelin has emerged from the shadow and has produced a fine string of performances for the club after returning from a loan spell from Charlton Athletic.

Arsenal’s reported main target for the summer is Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, and a move for Tiote in this window seems highly unlikely at this moment.

However, anything can happen in the transfer window.
