After completing his move from North London rivals, Spurs, Sigurdsson has adapted well to football in Wales, becoming one of Swansea’s most versatile players on the pitch.

The Icelandic defender has already racked up seven assists in the League, only two short of Cesc Fabregas. Taking on a role of leading figure in the dressing room is something he never got at Tottenham, play is now dictated by the 25 year-old.

After gaining confidence at the Liberty Stadium, his discipline has already improved as well, after conceding just seven fouls and picking up two yellow cards in the 12 games he’s played in a Swans shirt.

Standing in the centre of midfield, Sigurdsson is the playmaker, and has the ability to find a long ball over the top rather than play tika-taka football. This could be a weakness for Monreal, who struggles in the air, especially against a 6ft 3in Wilfried Bony.

A great strike of the ball allows him to have a pop at any time, and reminds me a lot of Tom Huddlestone, who has the eye to pick out a goal with one lethal shot. We must be careful of his ability on free-kicks.

The midfielder picked up another boost in the week, after being called up to the Iceland national side, which will come as no shock to him. But with that behind him he will want to make sure of a starting place before the European qualifier games next week, so a performance against Arsenal will surely confirm that.
