Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has flirted with a move to Arsenal this summer, amid claims Arsene Wenger is pursuing the transfer.
23-year-old Kenyan international Wanyama told The Sun of Arsenal’s interest, whilst stating he’d ‘love to play’ for a Champions League club.
Wanyama has been superb for the Saints this season, alongside another reported Arsenal target Morgan Schneiderlin, but could be amongst a wealth of players leaving the South Coast this summer.
The Gunners have been linked to the player before, during his time at Celtic, and Wanyama is desperate to return to the European stage he first experience in Scotland. He said:
“Wenger has been talking about me, and he has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer,”
“Arsenal are a great club and I’d love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.”
“But we’ve had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe. Then we’ll see where I end up in the summer.”
