Arsenal fans have been handed a major boost this afternoon after Mesut Ozil’s agent revealed talks with the club over a new contract are going well.
With reports circling around the uncertainty of Ozil’s future for over a year, fresh speculation recently threw up the suggestion that Manchester United were tracking the German.
Arsenal’s failure to secure Champions League football and the imminent loss of Alexis Sanchez all pointed to one outcome in regards to him extending his stay in North London.
However, the team behind the World Cup winner have moved quickly to stamp out any rumours and reassure the vast majority of supporters that Ozil is here to stay.
During an interview with Turkish newspaper, Fanatik, Ozil’s agent Erik Sogut confirmed Ozil is happy at the Gunners and is looking to sign a new long-term deal if a balance in demands can be agreed.
Ozil wants to play another two or three years in the Premier League.
Talks with Arsenal are ongoing regarding a new deal, what I can say right now is that negotiations are going well.
Our contract with Arsenal continues and we are moving in a positive direction.
Ozil has been missing for a while due to an ongoing inflammation in his knee but having stepped up his recovery over the international break is looking to feature in the next batch of Arsenal games.
Having rejoined training on Monday, this weekend’s game against Watford could come too soon for the attacking midfielder but recent matches have shown Arsenal can cope without him.
Alex Iwobi has produced the goods when stepping in and with Danny Welbeck also returning from injury, Ozil could have some competition for his place!
