Medical passed: Arsenal all set to announce major signing ahead of Manchester United

Arsenal look to have beaten off fierce competition to complete the signing of Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

According to a report in The Times on Friday morning, Gabriel is all set to seal his move to Arsenal following a successful medical.

Their report reads: ‘Arsenal are closing in on signing Gabriel after the Brazilian centre back completed a medical with the club after a fee of up to £27 million was agreed with Lille. The Premier League side have offered the 22-year-old a five-year contract, although Napoli have not given up hope of signing the player.’

With a medical passed and contract agreed, it seems only a matter of time before Arsenal will announce his signing. This, despite Sky Sports reporting on Thursday that Manchester United had held late talks with the player in an attempt to steal his signing ahead of the Gunners.

We told you on Wednesday that Arsenal were set to complete a deal for Gabriel. According to information we received, Gabriel was all set to sign a five-year contract with Arsenal after the club agreed a 30m euros package with Lille.

22-year-old Gabriel is physically strong, standing at 6ft 3’, very quick and comfortable with the ball at his feet. This is a rare blend of qualities for a central defender, especially one of his age. It’s not often you see a quick, tall strong and composed defender aged just 22.

Look out for our detailed analysis of Gabriel Magalhaes coming to fresharsenal.com in the next couple of days.
