According to Squawka, Alexis failed to touch the ball inside Liverpool’s box in the first half. Liverpool clearly knew how to contain our man and made a concerted effort to do so. Today was an off-day for Alexis although he still managed to win more tackles against Liverpool than Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Nacho Monreal and Per Mertesacker combined. The one bright moment of his game was the free kick which lead to Debuchy’s debut goal for Arsenal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately Alexis’ attempts at corner kicks left a lot to be desired and each failed to find the first man. Though Alexis wasn’t completely invisible throughout the match you do come to realise that a single man cannot always do the work of a team. Bring back the days of Alexis FC!
