Paying £34million for the centre-back last summer has come back to bite Wenger on the ass and he’ll now look to West Brom’s Jonny Evans in order to sure up an already leaky defence.

Wenger is prepared to go up against the money-bags of Manchester City as they feel they can offer the 29-year-old more assurances over playing time and opportunities to improve.

City are preparing another bid of £30million after having an initial offer of £16million rejected in the earlier stages of this month as they look to improve on last season’s third place finish.

Tony Pulis is adamant he won’t let his main man go this summer but Arsenal could provide something to ease the pain by offer Kieran Gibbs plus £20million.

The Baggies have been interested in Gibbs all summer and have responded to Arsenal’s asking price of £7million after Watford pulled out of a deal earlier today.
