Liverpool will join Arsenal in the race for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to reports in Portugal.
Reports from O Jogo state the Reds scouted the player during the U21 European Championships in the Czech Republic, where Portugal lost in the final to Sweden as Carvalho missed the decisive penalty in the shoot-out.
Arsenal are believed to be favourites to secure a move for Carvalho after they reportedly ended their interest in Juventus’ Arturo Vidal in order to pursue a move for the 23-year-old, who has been linked with a move to North London for a while.
Whilst Liverpool could drive the price up it’s unlikely Carvalho would seriously consider moving to Anfield, as he has Champions League football at Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal can offer the same opportunities- whereas Liverpool failed to secure a top four finish.
Potentially beating Liverpool to another target will delight Arsenal supporters though, following last summer’s Alexis Sanchez saga that saw the Chilean snub a move to Merseyside in order to sign for Arsenal.
