Arsenal are set to confirm the signing of Belgian forward Leandro Trossard on Friday.
The Gunners have moved fast to conclude a deal for the Brighton man after missing out on deals to sign Felix and Mudryk.
It was revealed on Thursday morning that Arsenal were in advanced talks to sign Trossard and before the evening, a fee had been agreed. Arsenal are now working on the final details to ensure he signs fully by midday on Friday, enabling him to feature in the squad for Sunday’s game against Manchester United.
There was a bit of a mixed reaction to his signing, with many saying their opinion was dependent on the cost of the deal. Trossard has just turned 28, so there was a concern the contract provided would be overly lucrative considering his likely squad status of being a rotation player.
According to the Daily Mail, the initial fee for Trossard is around £20million, with up to £7million in bonuses. They also say the player will earn around £90,000 per-week, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the contract will run until the summer of 2026 – a three and a half year deal.
All these details sound quite nice from an Arsenal perspective. It means Arsenal don’t need to keep the player well into his 30’s if there is a performance drop off with age and at £90,000 per-week, it’s not a huge contract to pay anyway.
The fee is also attractive to Arsenal given this is a Premier League proven player that can play in all three attacking positions, as well as in attacking midfield. It provides crucial depth for the side, in a window where Arsenal were repeatedly being quoted 100million euros for other, younger wingers.
Edu Gaspar had to find some value and in this deal I believe he has. It may also allow for the club to complete a deal for Ivan Fresneda this month. The Spanish right-back’s arrival would allow Cedric Soares to move to Fulham.
