Journalist says Arsenal have begun talks to sign one of Europe’s most prolific strikers

Arsenal are considering making a move for one of the most in-form strikers in European football right now.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles said that Arsenal have begun work to sign Frankfurt and Portugal striker, Andre Silva. He says the London club have done a lot of groundwork to sign him already.

The £40m-rated forward has been in sensational form for Frankfurt this season, netting 28 goals and contributing 5 assists in Germany. He’s won man of the match 8 times in his 32 appearances. Silva takes a lot of shots, 3.7 per game in fact, and wins 2.3 aerial duels per match. This highlights how involved in the final third he gets, and that will be an appealing factor to Arteta.

Duncan Castles goes on to say though, that Arsenal would need to sell Alexandre Lacazette this summer if they were to make a move for Silva. Lacazette has just one year remaining on his contract, but his reported £200,000 per week wages appear to be making him hard to shift.

Arsenal have two strikers aged over 30 currently in Aubameyang and Lacazette. The club also have some young talented forwards on their books, with high hopes of Folarin Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli. That presents an obvious gap of a forward in their prime years. Andre Silva is just that, aged 25 he has just had probably his best season to date.

Silva shone for Porto back in 2016/2017, but since then, until this season he has struggled to find a rhythm during spells with Sevilla and AC Milan.

Arsenal will be wary of that fact, as the Premier League is a different ball game altogether, and when you’re spending around £40million on a player, you want to be confident they can transfer their qualities into the English game.
