Arsenal are reportedly one of a number of clubs to be interested in securing the services of a Serie A star who will be out of contract in the summer.
The Gunners have a lot to do this summer and perhaps not the biggest budget, so they will have to make smart moves in the market.Â
Martin Odegaard has been brilliant for Arsenal since arriving on loan and I’m sure the club will hope to sign him permanently. If they can’t, then bringing in a player in that position is essential, as we’ve seen how beneficial it is for the team to have creativity in midfield.Â
One player who fits the bill is AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish midfielder has been in excellent form in Serie A recently, but with his contract running out in the summer, he looks set to move on.Â
According to Sky Sport Italy, Arsenal and Chelsea have offered contracts to the player. With less than six months on his deal, as a foreign club, Arsenal are entitled to be in negotiations with the player direct.Â
The same report though does go on to say that Juventus will likely lead the chase, should they choose to get involved. They say the financial package on offer from the Italian side will be the greatest.Â
The 27-year-old creator is very good at creating chances, averaging 3.2 key passes per 90 this season and notching up 8 assists.Â
On a free, this could be a good deal for Arsenal. But the club will be hesitant in committing too much in terms of financials to the player considering previous cases, where the Gunners have found large contracts difficult to shift if things don’t workout (see Kolasinac, Ozil).Â
