At the start of June Fresh Arsenal reported Niklas Bendtner and Johan Djourou were heading for exits, and that Arsenal were reviewing offers for Gervinho. Since then we’ve seen five bids ‘in the region of £3million’ accepted for another outcast Niklas Bendtner as he closes in on a move away from London. Now Johan Djourou appears to be close to the exit door.
Hamburg have confirmed their interest in signing Arsenal defender Johan Djourou. The Swiss defender spent the second half of the season on loan at Hamburg, who also have an interesting in once again loaning the defender according to a report in the Evening Standard.
“We would loan him but we would also buy him, depending on what Arsenal prefer,” said Hamburg’s director of sport, Oliver Kreuzer.
On competition with Hannover Kreuzer added: “Hannover played well in Europe last season but Hamburg is Hamburg, HSV is HSV and we are just a better club.”
Djourou has a contract at Arsenal until 2015 and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal would prefer to loan or sell the defender who, at times has performed brilliantly in an Arsenal jersey. The defender’s reported £50,000 per-week wages could yet prove to be a hitch in any deal.
