Arsenal have been heavily linked with signing Antionne Griezmann and Carlos Vela from Real Sociedad this summer, but the Gunners now appear to have turned their attention to Real Sociedad right-back Josepa Zeldua. The Mirror claim ‘the 21-year-old (Zeldua) could be used as part of the Carlos Vela deal as Arsene Wenger looks to sign a new right back after the departure of Bacary Sagna’
Zeldua has impressed for Sociedad this season after emerging through the youth system. The Gunners are on the hunt to bolster their options at right back after Bacary Sagna joined Manchester City on a free transfer and there are some concerns over Carl Jenkinson’s ability to play consistently at the top level. Even if he can, Jenkinson will need some competition, and currently there are no senior players offering that. Whilst Zeldua is still young, he is certainly held in high regard in his country and so would offer the Gunners a talent in that position.Â
Rumours now suggest the Gunners have agreed to sell the Vela clause for around £9million. If Arsene Wenger was serious about his interest in the Sociedad defender, you’d think he would have incorporated him in any deal. I personally don’t see much truth in this one.
