With just over two months until the end of the Premier League season, attention has turned towards the summer transfer window. Arsenal are already being linked with a host of names and Arsene Wenger spoke directly to the media today regarding some speculation.

Speaking to Goal, the 22-year-old Getafe midfielder claimed that Arsenal were chasing his signature in January and has raised the possibility of a summer move to the Premier League, which he stated he would like to play in.

Arsenal’s interest previously was well documented but given the strength in depth Arsenal have in attacking-midfield areas, it’s difficult to see a time where this transfer will pan out this summer- as Arsene Wenger’s targets seem to be mainly defender orientated.

The former Real Madrid youth, who made one senior appearance for Los Blancos, has risen to fame with Getafe and could make a move to a bigger club this summer.

Arsene Wenger spoke to the media today ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool and he was directly quizzed on potential interest in Reds star Raheem Sterling, who is linked to the Gunners having rejected a new contract with the Anfield outfit.

Wenger dubbed Sterling a ‘top player’ but refused to get drawn into the speculation, which isn’t surprising as this is how the French manager favours his transfer activity. He’s not the type of man to declare interest to the press, rather work behind the scenes.

Bringing Sterling to North London would be a monumental task though, especially when competing with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City. However, there is something tasty about a attacking-midfield trio of Sterling, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez…

Wenger Denies Dybala Bid (Various)

Arsene Wenger also spoke to the media regarding Palermo striker Paulo Dybala, who the Gunners reportedly bid for. However, Wenger denied the claims and said Arsenal were ‘not at all’ interested.

This makes sense to me as Arsenal are full of attacking talent and in forward positions we already have Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Yaya Sanogo, Joel Campbell, Lukas Podolski, Chuba Akpom et al.

I personally can’t see Wenger getting involved in a transfer saga that reportedly involves five teams, whilst the price is set to boom past the £30m mark. That’s not Arsene Wenger’s style and if he is targeting striking additions, I reckon they will come from elsewhere.

Arsenal Open Contract Discussions With Monreal (Mundo Deportivo)

Reports in Spain state Arsenal have opened discussions with Nacho Monreal regarding a new deal, which isn’t too surprising given our problems at left-back. Monreal is currently first-choice on that side ahead of Kieran Gibbs.

Monreal has struggled for form previously but has been in stellar showings this season, particularly in 2015. He seems to have finally adjusted to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, which is good news for Arsenal.

With Gibbs struggling consistently with injury problems, tying Monreal down for an extended duration is a smart move and shows Arsene Wenger has plans for the future, as well as right now.
