As the season draws to a close, the gossip begins. We will be bringing you an Arsenal filtered gossip column throughout the summer. Today reports suggest Arsenal will battle Juventus for Sanchez, that they have been offered Xavi and are keen on Remy, Marshall and Barry. See all the Arsenal transfer news in our Gossip Column.Â
Manchester City, Arsenal and Man United have been offered Barcelona star Xavi (Star). Xavi is a class act, but he is 34 now and would demand huge wages. We need a midfield enforcer and no matter how hard he would be to turn down, I think it would be the best decision. If we are to take any Barcelona central midfielder then it should be Cesc Fabregas. I think this one could have some truth to it in that Barcelona are looking to freshen up their side, however it comes from the Daily Star so the reliability needs to be questioned immediately.
Arsenal will battle with Juventus for the £20million signing of Alexis Sanchez (Mirror). This one comes from the Mirror and it is true that Sanchez is more than likely to leave the Nou Camp this summer. Sanchez would be a quality signing. He can play anywhere across the frontline and would add a new dynamic to our attack. For £20million it is a steal, but it seems Juventus have this signing pretty much in the bag. Sanchez looks happy to return to Serie A where he flourished originally, and the Premier League may be a test he is not willing to take just yet, following an indifferent spell in Spain.
Arsenal are lining up a move for Cardiff keeper David Marshall (Mirror). I’ve said this for some time that I hope Arsenal move for Marshall. He’s a quality goalkeeper and signing him would give us brilliant competition between the sticks. The Mirror think £8million will be enough to sign him – despite his quality I wouldn’t be too keen on spending more than £6million on a back-up goalkeeper – but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get that quality in, especially if you want to win titles.

Everton are in a battle with Arsenal and Tottenham for £10m striker Loic Remy (Star). The Remy rumour won’t go away. I have a feeling it will keep going all summer and I don’t think we will sign him. He’s a decent striker but I think we should be looking for better. If we want a striker of his ilk then Carlos Vela should be the priority at just £3.3million.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Everton loan star Gareth Barry (Star). Don’t get me wrong, Barry has done a good job at Everton this year, but come on. If we were to sign Barry it would be another short-term solution and doesn’t really solve the problems we have in that area of the squad. We need an energetic enforcer in the middle, that is not Gareth Barry.
