As the season draws to a close, the gossip begins. We will be bringing you an Arsenal filtered gossip column throughout the summer. Today reports suggest Arsenal have agreed a deal for Josip Drmic and have also offered Kasper Schmeichel a contract. See all the Arsenal transfer news in our Gossip Column.
Arsenal have offered a contract to Kasper Schmeichel who is a free agent this summer, as they look to replace Fabianski (BT Sport) Schmeichel is a keeper who has always been compared to, but never reached his father’s heights. At just 27-years-old he has time to improve further and he has helped Leicester reach the Premier League. He is unlikely to command a big wage, will cost nothing and probably be willing to be second choice – this would seem a wise move for the Gunners.
Lothar Matthaus has insisted Josip Drmic will join Arsenal this summer: ‘Although now Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen all have an interest. I’m saying: Josip Drmic will switch to Arsenal.’ (Metro) Drmic is just 21-years-old and would reportedly cost just £4.5million. He has managed 16 goals for Nurnberg this season and can play as a striker or on either wing. Read more about his style and qualities in our Scout Report.
Arsenal target and PSV wonder-kid Zakaria Bakkali may be available this summer after contract extension talks broke down (Mirror) Arsenal are in need of a winger with a bit of pace, and whilst the likes of Greizmann have been heavily linked – Bakkali could be the wiser investment. With huge potential, if PSV do decide to sell, you can expect a queue of European clubs bidding for him.
West Brom are set to bid for Arsenal striker Joel Campbell in the summer, if Pepe Mel is still in charge (Birmingham Mail). There is certainly a place in the squad for Campbell is Arsene Wenger wants to keep him. The Gunners are lacking a fast, attacking option up front and Campbell probably deserves a chance. It may be worth giving the Costa Rican a chance in pre-season and then perhaps loaning him out to a Premier League club – rather than selling immediately.
Bayern Munich are now interested in Arsenal target Loic Remy, as they look to replace Mandzukic (Mirror). Arsenal appear to be in the market for either Remy or Mandzukic, or perhaps both. If Remy were to join Bayern then is would free up Mandzukic to leave the club. Some Arsenal fans may prefer Remy due to his pace, price and Premier League experience – but Mandzukic has recently proven himself as one of the best strikers in Europe.
